My Tired Thoughts

Wow! Its been awhile since I updated this blog. At night when I finally get to sit down and "veg" in front of the computer my mind is tired and I have nothing clever or creative to say so I haven't been keeping up with my place. On a random note, I do have to say I have an obsession with this facebook stuff. I could spend 3 hours easily just looking around on people's pages and writing comments.
Anyways, when school began my days have been filled to the brim with things to do. Although its been busy with my 3 day work week, school things/volunteering and soccer practices/games I have to say I kinda enjoy this crazy time. Its nice to be busy and keep with a schedule, thats how I work best. My A.D.D. mind is all over the place and its nice to keep it entertained. My Clay-Bug is doing well in school and enjoying it very much. My Kara-Bear is enjoying her preschool where I am teaching and she is learning in another classroom. My hubby is doing well at his job and our life seems to be moving along. We are moving along on our new addition to our home and its getting to the good part, where tile is being put down, doors, trim then paint. Can't wait to see the end result. God is good and I feel blessed! That's about all I can come up with at this time. Meanwhile I will leave you with a few soccer photos of the kids first games of the season.

My Papa

My papa, Earl Dannenburg Patton left this earth to meet my grandmother and my Lord in Heaven late Sunday night at the age of 93. My grandmother passed away in July of this year and 44 days later my grandfather left to go home too. I know that they are both in Heaven and are having a wonderful time with each other and my Lord. Thankfully, I have the assurance that I will see them again.
I have some wonderful memories of going over to my grandparent's house. I loved the way my Papa laughed and how he would joke with my sister and I about the pretend dog he had beside his chair. I loved how he told his very adventure filled stories of WWII while he was in the navy. I never got tired of hearing those stories and I know I learned something new everytime I went over there to visit him. What a neat life he lived. I'm thankful that I got to know him for as long as I did. He was a very neat guy and I will miss him.

This was papa last Christmas at my house. I remember as a kid he used to have this kind of candy in his room. I just happened to see it one day at Walmart and had to get it for him. I think he was pretty excited to receive and eat it! :)

A New Phase

Summer is coming closer to the end and I'm not sure I'm ready. In a few weeks my little boy will be taking his first steps into "big kid school" (that is kindergarten in case you weren't for sure.) He is really excited about going which helps me to be excited too. I'm also a little sad that this brief time of our lives is over. He was such a good baby and I have enjoyed every phase of his baby, toddler, and preschool days. I have to once again let go of a little kite string and pray he holds on to what I have taught him and makes good choices without me always being there.
The supplies are bought, the uniforms fit and are ready to go and the countdown has started. He informs me on a daily basis what he wants me to put into his lunch for the first day and I catch him in the closet looking through his school supplies often. He is ready and very excited to see his cousin Alex, who will be in first grade, at lunch and our conversation these days are all about what teacher he is getting and if he will have a locker.
Wow, how days just seem to fly by as you get older.

Where did my babies go?

Why do I always take pictures on or beside my bed....I guess that's where we always are. :)

A Road Trip with Friends

There is nothing better then good friends and an open road. This past Wednesday, I got the privelage of hanging out with my good buddies from my teaching days. We are a group of girls that all met from my one and only elementary school where I use to teach at in Mesquite. We still get together for birthdays, Christmas time and usually a handful of other times throughout the year. We've all gone our separate ways now but we still always keep in touch, which is nice. Our friend Michelle has been in Africa the past 2 years as a missionary teaching 2nd grade. I'm so proud of her and what she has accomplished through the Lord. Several years ago, I invited her to teach vacation bible school at my church with me and during that week she became a christian. Soon after that, she began feeling the call to work in Africa as a missionary and obeyed even though she was a little nervous about living in a third world country. What an inspiration she has been to me.
Anyways, her 2 years were up and Wednesday was the day she finally stepped out onto American soil agian.
Our travels were not without adventure. As we drove down to Georgetown we witnessed a burning car still rolling down the road almost comletely engulfed in flames and a bank robber on the loose which led to at least 20 police cars following behind. We got a first row view from our window on the 3rd floor of our Holiday Inn Express room. It was all very bizarre, to say the least.
We ate, laughed our heads off, acted like 12 year olds, ate some more, shopped, sang Micheal Jackson songs, went to Walmart at 11:30 at night (it still amazes me to see whole families with 4 year olds at that late of a night in Walmart buying their groceries), got about 5 hours of sleep, and said random words that wouldn't make any sense to anyone else. The best part was getting to give a big ol' hug to my friend who I had been praying for this whole time. The Lord is good and my friend is back in the comforts of home.
Thanks Allison for the help this week!!!

A Full Week

Last week, our days were filled with getting up early, putting our t-shirts on and heading out the door to vacation bible school. This year, I worked with the ever energetic 3rd graders. I usually do something with preschool throughout the year and this is my only time that I go up and do something on a different level....aaahhh, the wonderful world of greater independence. It was an awesome week. We had an Australian theme which focused on the life of Peter and his relationship with Christ. We not only learned some fun dances, facts about Australia and facts about Peter but we had fun with the offering. Every year, the boys and girls compete against each other to see who can have the bigger total. Usually, the girls win and they won again forcing our children's director to wear a dress to church today. It was pretty funny and the kids always get a kick out of what children's minister will have to wear something embarassing on that Sunday. I wish I had more pictures of the week to show but I only have one of my two sweet babies. 23 kids came to know Christ this past week. It was an amazing week to be apart of and I was so thankful to be an opened vessel that the Lord could use me to win 3 kids to our amazing Lord.

We had a wonderful week in spite of my sweet grandmother (my dad's mom) passing away on the Friday before VBS. I dedicate this post to a godly woman who is dancing around the throne today. I love you Momo and I will be seeing you again someday.

My beautiful grandmother was such a wonderful cook, hostess and all around "cool" grandma. She loved adventure and wasn't afraid to go on the rides at Six Flags in her 60's. She loved to play games with my sister and I and we would always get a birthday card with a stick of gum inside.

Progress

We are coming along on the addition to our house. Here are just a few new pics for you to look at and enjoy, if you care. :)
I'm so proud of my hubby and father in law. They have been doing such a good job and I admire their dedication and hard work.

Outside of addition

Here is our new handmade custom built TEMPORARY door my hubby and father in law built. Very crafty....this door will only stay for a little while until we finish out the inside on the other side.
